Seattle area’s weekend traffic could be a mess, so WSDOT turns to map and Mariner Moose for help

Rather than shake your fists at Seattle-area traffic these days, perhaps it’s best to just relax and … smile.

Clearly the folks at the Washington State Department of Transportation are encouraging the latter in a new illustrated map that was shared via email and on Twitter Thursday.

If you’re planning on going anywhere in the region this coming weekend, maybe take a look at this map first. There are real live sporting events at Safeco Field and CenturyLink Field and a big e-sports event at KeyArena; there’s a county fair up north and bluegrass festival out east; there’s also an arts festival, a bike ride, and a food festival.

In and around all of that, from Edmonds to Ellensburg and Mount Vernon to Tacoma, there are various zones of construction with ramp, bridge and lane closures, of course.

WSDOT playfully illustrated it all with emojis and scribble text and warned folks to plan accordingly. And, because the Seattle Mariners figure heavily in the weekend entertainment options, WSDOT turned to the team’s mascot to help further spread the word. Check out the video:
